Rescue! 2.0.5 - Scoring Algorithm
The scoring algorithm used in Rescue! 2.0.5 is actually rather complex and involves many different variables.
A full breakdown of the mathematics involved will not be given here; but in general, rescuing a high percentage of colonists is of the utmost importance. That is, after all, the "name of the game!"
Things which will ADD to your score:
• Each colonist rescued (safely deposited at a surviving Starbase)
*Note: the higher the percentage of colonists rescued, the MORE each one will be worth.
• Each enemy ship killed (Cube ship and secret Rulan Base are especially high in value!)
• Killing ALL enemy ships (extra bonus points for this)
Things which will SUBTRACT from your score:
• Docking at a Starbase (the more times you do it, the more points subtracted)
• Loss of the Enterprise (i.e. you died)
• Enterprise crew casualties (from taking hits, leaving away teams on planets etc.)
• Overall time taken to complete your mission (faster is better!)
• Attacking friendly targets (REALLY bad for your score!)
Variables and Randomness:
• There are anywhere from 96 to 125 colonists on each planet at the beginning of each mission. The ideal scoring situation would be getting a full 125 colonists on each of the 9 planets for your mission. However, the odds of this are EXTREMELY unlikely.
• There is a small luck factor of 0 to 9 points, which may or may not be granted depending on the mood of the debriefing officer who is judging you.
The best score theoretically possible in Rescue 2.0.5 is: 18153 points. This would have to be done with: 1125 colonists rescued (125 x 9 planets); all 52 enemies (50 Rulan & Cardian, 1 Cube ship and 1 Rulan Base) destroyed ONLY by the Enterprise, 1 Starbase docking; no crew casualties; 9 luck points; and a total mission completion time of less than one minute.
The above score is virtually unattainable due to the high number of colonists required. The exact same scenario, but with an AVERAGE number of colonists (990) would yield a score of 17667 points. Scores of 9500 to 11000 are excellent; 11001 to 14000 are exceptional. Any score above 14000 is world-class!
My personal high score is a merely human 13786.
